    Fray Alonso de Santiago is an important historic figure as a result of his religious influence. He was a Franciscan friar born in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. In 1524, when he was just 24 years old, he was chosen to catechize and convert native people living near the volcano Citlatepetl.

  • Suite Guillermo Prieto Pradillo

    In 1857 when “la posada del emperador” was an estate, the writer and poet Guillermo Prieto Pradilllo stayed here two nights with the president Benito Juarez.

  • Suite Emperador Maximiliano de Habsburgo

    One of the most beautiful rooms in the hotel, it was equipped to host Maximilian (the English usage of Maximiliano) when he traveled from the Port of Veracruz on his way to Mexico City in 1846. Maximilian spent two nights here.

  • Suite Francisco Gabilondo Soler "Cri-Cri"

    There are several stories about the famous “Cri-Cri.” One of them is that he wrote the well-known songs “El Chorrito” and “El Ropero” here, some time between 1920 and 1940. Gabilondo Soler visited this place often because his wife Rosario Patiño (“Charito”) was born in Coscomatepec.

  • Master Suite Gen. Nicolás Bravo

    You’ll get an exquisite view from the Gen. Nicolás Bravo Master Suite. It includes a beautiful private terrace for your enjoyment. The room is named in honor of the prominent political and military man Nicolás Bravo Rueda, who was President of Mexico from 1842 to 1843. In 1811 he was the leader who fought for the independence of the State of Veracruz.

  • Suite Dr. Miguel Dominguez Loyo

    Miguel Dominguez Loyo was born in Coscomatepec on May 22, 1904. He was a doctor and a prominent historian. He was also recognized for his literary work. His research work is stored in the national and state archives.

  • Suite La Troje

    The word Coscomatepec means “hill of the granary” in Nahuatl (“cerro de los trojes” in Spanish). These “trojes” were strategically placed granaries used to store basic foods like rice and beans during the Totonaca and Aztec cultures. The stored grains would be used in times of famine or crop failure.

  • Suite Moctezuma

    This suite was named in honor of Emperor Moctezuma (or Montezuma, more familiar in English) Xocoyotzin, who in 1512 established a military post in Coscomatepec. The emperor chose Coscomatepec as a place for the Aztec Empire to store grains to be used in times of famine.

  • Suite Lic. Fernándo de Jesús Corona y Arpide

    Fernando de Jesús Corona was a distinguished Veracruz jurist. He was born in Coscomatepec on May 30, 1818. A lawyer by profession, Fernando de Jesús Corona obtained several public positions, including councilor, vice-rector at Xalapa National College, Superior Court Judge, Minister of the Supreme Court, and temporary governor of Veracruz in 1861 and 1868.

    His masterpiece was the civil and penal code of Veracruz they were called “Codigos De Corona”. The civil and penal code of Veracruz apply since 1869 and they were the first ones of Latin America. As a consequence of that they were a model to follow.

  • Suite Gral. Honorato Domínguez

    Born in Coscomatepec in 1822, Gen. Honorato Domínguez was present during the Yankee bombardment in March 1847. He was one of the people who helped Gen. Porfirio Diaz leave the country after his defeat. (Note: You should state which defeat. When he rose up against Juárez, or in 1911? In 1911 he would have been 90 years old!).

    Our pride and joy. The majestic volcano Citlaltépetl (renamed by the Spaniards as Orizaba, but also known by another Native American name, Poyautecatl) is Mexico’s highest mountain, the third highest in North America.

  • Suite Tetlalpan

    Tetlalpan was a prehistoric name for the first Totonacas town, and is today known as Coscomatepec. (I’m not sure if I got this right, since under Cuezcomatepec you also say it’s a former name of the town!) Tetlalpan means stoney. The Totonaca culture is still present in Coscomatepec today, as can be seen from the representation of the godlike legendary figure Quetzalcoatl in carved stone.

  • Suite Cuezcomatepec

    Cuezcomatepec

    Cuezcomatepec was the original name of the city of Coscomatepec. The name was given to the town by the Toltecs. Cuezcomatepec means “granary town,” because Moctezuma stored grain there due to its low temperatures and dry weather, to provide reserves in times of famine

    Coscomatepec city was funden between 1200 and 1500 AC and beside its Totonaca culture influence had Teotihucan and Olmeca influence.
